2011 spring, an excellent season for anime with many great shows to watch. Honestly I find it somewhat hard to choose some of the best out of the 21 shows I am watching this season.
The 'must watch' anime
Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai.
AnoHana is about a group of childhood friend who as growing up and after the tragic incident of Menma's death as a child have drifted apart. The main character Jintan has secluded himself to the life of a hikikomori after these events of his childhood and the death of his mother, his father is helpless in the situation and believes he should choose his own path. The dead Menma appears in front of Jintan often and wants him to grant him her wish. The show is about bringing together childhood friends and how people change over time. This anime is rather depressing and is done really well, I love depressing anime and this show is terrific. The show is being fansubbed by Doki here.
Deadman Wonderland
This anime is an action horror show based around the existence of a brutal power known as 'Branches of Sin' where the user can control their own blood as a weapon. Igarashi Ganta, the main character, is the sole survivor of a mass murdering in his classroom and he gets convicted of this crime and sent to the privately owned jail 'Deadman Wonderland'. Ganta is on death row and the prison revolves around the sick attractions where convicts are sent out on life risking challenges which an audience comes to watch, the prison is a theme park for the public to laugh at the convicts. However the anime goes deeper than that very soon and Ganta finds himself struggling for his life against the other murderous inmates. The anime quickly gets intense and sickening. It's being fansubbed by umee here.
Steins;Gate
This anime is about a group of scientists who have created a microwave which can send text messages back in time (and make bananas into soft green goop). The main character Okabe is convinced that there is an evil organisation after him and his secrets and is generally a 'mad scientist'. The group discover secrets from SERN regarding time travel and the truth behind Okabe's conspiracy theories. The show is intriguing and has caught my attention. It's being fansubbed by Steins;subs so check it out here.
C
[C] The Money of Soul and Possibility Control, is a financial show that explores many ideas about economy. The show centers around a mystical city known as The Financial District where entrepreneurs get assets to aid them in fighting with other assets to attempt and make profit by using their own money to launch attacks. The show is very in depth and involves lots of financial issues as Kimimaro, the main character, gets invited to this Financial District. Entrepreneurs in the Financial District have their future held as a collateral and in the event of their bankruptcy, they may loose something of their future from the real world. This is being subbed by Doki here.
Part 2 should be out soon, look forward to it.
The only one I've seen so far is Steins;Gate and I like it a lot, the rest look like really interesting shows, so I'll try them in the near future.

ReplyDeleteI've only watched DW extensively; slowly starting on Anohana and C, hoping to see some good stuff from them.
ReplyDeleteI actually commented on how DW was a bit shounen-ish, but someone else pointed out that it should be classified as seinen instead. Good story nevertheless; it's my favourite off this season.
These sound like some really interesting shows. I'll be sure to check them out.
